Peruvian Meat Pastry Bites 3

Peruvian Meat Pastry Bites 3

Peruvian Meat Pastry Bites 3 captures the essence of home cooking, where each bite tells the story of family kitchens. Crafted with 300 grams of ground beef and a finely chopped onion, these bites are a staple at Peruvian tables, especially during casual gatherings. Instead of precise measurements, cooks rely on instinct, using generous pinches of fine sea salt and black pepper to season each filling to perfection. It's a dish where the cook's touch makes all the difference.

Expect a crispy, golden exterior that gives way to a succulent, savory filling. The pastry wrappers hug the seasoned beef, creating a delightful contrast in texture. While traditionally fried to achieve that satisfying crunch, these bites are all about balance—each is a small package of warmth and comfort, designed for sharing, yet savored individually. The absence of a formal serving ritual emphasizes their informal, yet essential, place at the Peruvian table.

Ingredients

  • 300 gground beef
  • 1onion
  • 12pastry wrappers
  • for fryingoil
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by finely dicing 1 onion. This will ensure that the onion cooks evenly and blends well with the ground beef. Set the diced onion aside and prepare the pastry wrappers by separating them gently to avoid tearing.
  2. In a large skillet, heat enough oil to cover the bottom over medium-high heat. Once the oil shimmers, add the diced onion. Sauté the onion until it becomes translucent and fragrant, which will take about 5 minutes. This step builds the foundational flavor for your filling.
  3. Add 300 g of ground beef to the skillet with the onions. Use a wooden spoon to break the beef into small pieces, ensuring it cooks evenly. Cook until the beef is browned and no pink remains, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Season the beef and onion mixture with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to distribute the seasoning evenly. Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if necessary, ensuring a balanced flavor.
  5. Lay out the pastry wrappers on a clean surface. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each wrapper. Be careful not to overfill, as this will make sealing difficult.
  6. Fold each pastry wrapper over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges together firmly, using a fork to crimp and seal the edges. This will prevent the filling from leaking during frying.
  7. In a deep frying pan, heat enough oil to submerge the pastries over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the sealed pastries in batches. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  8. Remove the pastries from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Finish with a light sprinkle of fine sea salt while still hot. Serve immediately, sharing them around the table for everyone to enjoy.
