Peruvian Soft Rolls 2

Peruvian Soft Rolls 2 brings the warmth of home-cooked meals straight to your table. This dish is a staple in Peruvian households, where the salt is measured by feel, and butter is added with a generous hand. These rolls are a reflection of family gatherings, embodying the essence of sharing and togetherness.

The rolls are soft, with a delicate crumb that melts in your mouth, thanks to the perfect blend of flour, yeast, milk, and butter. The subtle saltiness enhances their flavor, making them a delightful accompaniment to any meal. This home version captures the simplicity and comfort of Peruvian family cooking, offering a taste that is both familiar and inviting.

Ingredients

  • 500 gflour
  • 7 gyeast
  • 250 mlmilk
  • 50 gbutter
  • 1 tspfine sea salt

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 500 g of flour and 7 g of yeast. Mix them together with your hands or a wooden spoon until the yeast is evenly distributed throughout the flour. This ensures that the yeast will activate evenly throughout the dough.
  2. In a small saucepan, gently heat 250 ml of milk until it is warm to the touch, but not hot. Add 50 g of butter to the milk and stir until it melts completely. The warmth of the milk will help dissolve the butter and activate the yeast without killing it.
  3. Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the warm milk and butter mixture. Add 1 tsp of fine sea salt, then use your hands to mix everything together until a shaggy dough forms. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. The dough should feel soft and slightly tacky, but not sticky.
  4. Place the kneaded dough back into the mixing bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free area until it doubles in size. This should take about 1 to 2 hours, depending on the ambient temperature. The dough is ready when you can gently press it with your finger and the indentation remains.
  5. Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the gases. Transfer it to a lightly floured surface and divide it into equal portions, shaping each into a smooth ball. Place the balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving enough space between them to allow for expansion.
  6. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F). Once heated, place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the rolls for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. This indicates that they are fully baked and have a light, airy interior.
  7. Remove the rolls from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly. This allows the crumb to set and prevents the bottoms from becoming soggy. Let them cool until they are warm to the touch.
  8. Serve the Peruvian Soft Rolls warm with your meal, allowing everyone to enjoy their soft, pillowy texture and rich, buttery flavor. These rolls are perfect for sharing and will complement any dish on your table.
