Korean Beef Skewers 2

Korean Beef Skewers 2 captures the essence of home-cooked Korean meals, where simplicity meets the art of seasoning. This dish, often found gracing family tables, is prepared with a generous hand of salt and a liberal use of fat, embodying the warmth and sharing spirit of Korean home dining. It's a true reflection of how Korean families bring a dish to life, not through rigid rules but through instinctive cooking.

The skewers are a celebration of robust flavors and tender textures. Each bite offers succulent beef cubes, kissed by the subtle heat of cumin and the sweetness of onion. The seasoning, a delicate balance of fine sea salt and black pepper, enhances the richness of the beef, making this dish a staple for any shared meal.

Ingredients

  • 800 gbeef cubes
  • 1onion
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspcumin
  • as neededskewers
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by placing the 800 g beef cubes in a large mixing bowl. Season them generously with fine sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Add 1 tsp of cumin, ensuring each piece is well-coated. This step infuses the beef with flavor, enhancing the natural taste of the meat with a subtle hint of spice.
  2. Peel and finely chop 1 onion. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant, which should take about 3 to 4 minutes. This will create a flavorful base for the beef.
  3. Add the seasoned beef cubes to the skillet in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Brown the beef on all sides, turning occasionally, until each piece develops a deep, rich color. This browning process locks in the juices and adds a savory crust to the meat.
  4. If using a grill, preheat it to medium-high. Thread the browned beef cubes onto skewers, leaving a small space between each piece for even cooking. Grill the skewers, turning occasionally, until the beef is tender and cooked to your desired level of doneness. Look for a slight char on the edges, which indicates they are ready.
  5. Alternatively, if braising, transfer the browned beef cubes to a pot. Add a small amount of water or broth to cover the bottom of the pot, and cover with a lid. Simmer on low heat until the beef is tender and easily pierced with a fork, which should take about 20 to 30 minutes.
  6. Once the beef is cooked, taste a piece and adjust the seasoning with more salt if needed. Serve the Korean Beef Skewers 2 with rice, bread, or a fresh salad, allowing everyone at the table to share and enjoy this flavorful dish.
