Korean Beef Skewers 3

Korean Beef Skewers 3 brings the warmth of home cooking, a dish often prepared for casual family dinners. This recipe reflects the way Korean families approach their meals—uncomplicated but rich in flavor. It's about the instinctive use of salt and the generous inclusion of fat, ensuring each skewer is tender and satisfying. Here, the skewers are meant to be shared around a table, encouraging a communal dining experience.

When cooked, the beef cubes should be juicy, with a hint of cumin adding a subtle earthiness. The onion melds into the beef, creating a savory foundation, while the oil ensures a luscious texture. Each bite offers a balance of saltiness and peppery warmth, resonating with the simplicity and comfort of Korean home cooking.

Ingredients

  • 800 gbeef cubes
  • 1onion
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspcumin
  • as neededskewers
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by placing the 800 g of beef cubes in a large mixing bowl. Season them generously with fine sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Add 1 tsp of cumin and mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the spices across the meat.
  2. Peel and finely chop 1 onion. In a large skillet or grill pan, heat 2 tbsp of oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant, which should take about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Increase the heat to high and add the seasoned beef cubes to the pan in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Allow the beef to brown without stirring for about 2-3 minutes, or until a deep, rich color develops on one side. Flip the cubes to brown the other side, ensuring all sides are seared to lock in the juices.
  4. If using a grill, preheat it to medium-high. Thread the browned beef cubes onto skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even cooking. Place the skewers on the grill and cook, turning occasionally, until the beef is tender and cooked to your desired level of doneness. The exterior should be caramelized and slightly crispy, while the inside remains juicy.
  5. Once cooked, remove the skewers from the grill or pan. Taste a piece of beef and adjust the seasoning with additional salt if necessary. Serve the skewers immediately with your choice of rice, bread, or salad, allowing everyone at the table to share and enjoy.
