Thai Beef Skewers 2

Thai Beef Skewers 2 brings the essence of Thai home cooking to your table, capturing the unspoken rituals of family meals. This version is all about the intuitive touch—salt measured by instinct, a generous hand with the fat, and a table set for shared enjoyment. It's the kind of dish that finds its place in everyday gatherings, prepared with the ease and familiarity of a well-loved tradition.

When you bite into these skewers, expect a tender, juicy burst of beef accented by the warm earthiness of cumin and the sweetness of grilled onion. The seasoning is a personal touch, balanced with fine sea salt and a hint of black pepper, inviting you to savor each mouthful in the company of friends and family.

Ingredients

  • 800 gbeef cubes
  • 1onion
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspcumin
  • as neededskewers
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by placing the 800 g beef cubes in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle 1 tsp cumin, fine sea salt, and black pepper over the beef. Use your hands to mix thoroughly, ensuring each piece is evenly coated with the spices. This step ensures the beef absorbs the flavors well.
  2. Peel and finely chop the onion. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil shimmers, add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant, which will take about 3 to 4 minutes. This step builds a flavorful base for the beef.
  3. Add the seasoned beef cubes to the skillet with the onions. Spread them out in a single layer to ensure even browning. Allow each side to brown deeply, turning occasionally with tongs. Look for a rich, caramelized crust to develop on the beef, which enhances the flavor.
  4. If using a grill, preheat it to medium-high. Thread the browned beef cubes onto skewers, ensuring they are packed tightly but not overcrowded. Grill the skewers, turning occasionally, until the beef is tender and cooked through. The beef should feel firm to the touch and have a slight char on the edges.
  5. Alternatively, if braising, transfer the browned beef and onions to a pot. Add a splash of water or broth, cover, and reduce the heat to low. Simmer gently until the beef is tender and easily pierced with a fork, about 20 to 30 minutes, adjusting the liquid as needed to prevent drying.
  6. Once cooked, taste a piece of beef and adjust the seasoning with more salt if necessary. The beef should be flavorful and succulent. Serve the skewers immediately with rice, bread, or a fresh salad, encouraging diners to share and enjoy the meal together.
