Peruvian Rice Side 2 is cooked the way Peruvian home tables cooks it — salt judged by hand, fat used generously, and the table set for sharing. This is the home version, written down the way a peruvian family cook actually puts it on the table.
Peruvian Rice Side 2
Ingredients
- 400 grice
- 50 gbutter or oil
- 600 mlwater
- 1 tspfine sea salt
Method
- Begin by preparing your vegetables. Choose your preferred vegetables, such as bell peppers, carrots, or peas, and cut them into small, even pieces. This ensures they cook at the same rate and blend well with the rice.
- In a medium-sized pot, heat 50 g of butter or oil over medium heat. Once the butter has melted or the oil is shimmering, add the chopped onion. Stir occasionally, cooking until the onion becomes soft and translucent, releasing its sweet aroma.
- Add the prepared vegetables to the pot with the softened onion. Stir them together, allowing the vegetables to cook until they are tender. The vegetables should be vibrant in color and slightly softened, indicating they are ready for the next step.
- Pour 400 g of rice into the pot, stirring to coat the grains in the butter or oil. This step helps the rice absorb the flavors from the onions and vegetables, enhancing the overall taste of the dish.
- Add 600 ml of water to the pot, followed by 1 tsp of fine sea salt. Stir gently to combine, ensuring the salt is evenly distributed throughout the mixture. Increase the heat to bring the water to a gentle boil.
- Once the water reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Allow the rice to simmer, absorbing the water and flavors. The rice is done when it is tender and fluffy, with all the water absorbed.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for about 5 minutes. This resting period allows the rice to finish cooking and ensures it is perfectly fluffy. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving, ensuring the vegetables are evenly distributed.
- Taste the rice and adjust the seasoning if necessary with additional salt. Serve the Peruvian Rice Side 2 warm, inviting everyone to share in this comforting and flavorful dish.
