Yogurt me Meli

Yogurt me Meli graces Greek breakfast tables with its simplicity and comforting flavors. This homey dish is prepared with the unmeasured ease of olive oil and salt, always balanced by the zing of fresh lemon. Passed down in Greek homes, this recipe captures the essence of everyday mornings where ingredients are guided by instinct rather than precision.

Expect a creamy, tangy base from the strained Greek yogurt, sweetened just right with a drizzle of rich honey. The crunch of walnuts adds texture, while a whisper of cinnamon ties it all together. It's a dish that embodies the quiet pleasure of starting the day with something both nourishing and indulgent.

Ingredients

  • 500 gstrained Greek yogurt
  • 80 ghoney
  • 60 gwalnuts — chopped
  • cinnamona pinch

Method

  1. Start by toasting 60 g of walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat. Stir them frequently to ensure even toasting and prevent burning. You'll know they're ready when they become fragrant and take on a golden-brown color. Remove from heat and let them cool before roughly chopping.
  2. In a small saucepan, gently warm 80 g of honey over low heat. Stir occasionally to prevent it from sticking or burning. The honey should become more fluid and easier to drizzle, but do not let it boil. Once warmed, set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine 500 g of strained Greek yogurt with a pinch of cinnamon. Stir until the cinnamon is evenly distributed throughout the yogurt, creating a smooth and creamy mixture.
  4. Transfer the yogurt mixture into individual serving bowls or a larger serving dish, depending on your preference. Use a spatula to ensure all the yogurt is transferred and the surface is smooth.
  5. Drizzle the warmed honey over the yogurt, allowing it to create a sweet, sticky layer on top. The honey should pool slightly but not run off the sides.
  6. Sprinkle the chopped, toasted walnuts over the honey-covered yogurt. The nuts should provide a crunchy contrast to the creamy yogurt and sticky honey.
  7. Serve the Yogurt me Meli immediately, ensuring it is at room temperature for the best flavor and texture. The combination of creamy yogurt, sweet honey, and crunchy walnuts should be balanced and harmonious.
