Korean Shrimp Pan

Korean Shrimp Pan is a beloved dish in Korean households, known for its simplicity and bold flavors. Often prepared for family dinners or casual gatherings, this dish celebrates the freshness of shrimp, enhanced by the warmth of garlic and a hint of chili. The recipe captures the essence of home cooking, where measurements are instinctual, and the experience is shared around a communal table.

The taste is a lively interplay of succulent shrimp, aromatic garlic, and the subtle heat of chili, all rounded by the brightness of fresh lemon juice. The generous use of olive oil ensures a rich, satisfying mouthfeel, making each bite a delight. It's a dish meant to be savored, encouraging conversation and connection at the table.

Ingredients

  • 600 gshrimp
  • 4 clovesgarlic
  • 80 mlolive oil
  • lemonjuiced
  • to tastechili
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Begin by cleaning the shrimp: remove the shells and devein them if needed. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. This ensures that the shrimp will cook evenly and not release excess water into the pan.
  2. In a large skillet, pour in 80 ml of olive oil and heat it over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add 4 cloves of garlic, finely chopped. Stir the garlic gently until it becomes golden and releases a fragrant aroma, which will take about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add the cleaned shrimp to the skillet, spreading them out in a single layer. Cook the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on one side until they turn pink and opaque halfway through. Flip the shrimp and cook for another 1-2 minutes until they are fully opaque and firm to the touch, indicating they are perfectly cooked.
  4. Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the shrimp, ensuring even distribution. Add chili to taste, adjusting the heat level to your preference. Stir everything gently to combine the flavors.
  5. Taste a shrimp to check for seasoning and add fine sea salt to taste, mixing well to ensure even seasoning. Once satisfied with the flavor, transfer the shrimp to a serving dish immediately to prevent overcooking. Serve the Korean Shrimp Pan hot, encouraging sharing at the table as is customary in Korean home cooking.
