Elliniko Kreas Seasoning

Rooted in the rustic tavernas of Greece, Elliniko Kreas Seasoning is the quintessential rub for lamb and pork, gracing tables with its aromatic allure throughout the year. This blend is essential for a Greek feast, capturing the essence of traditional flavors that have been savored over generations. Its presence on the grill signals a celebration of simplicity and authenticity, often enjoyed in the company of friends and family.

The seasoning brings a harmonious balance of earthy oregano, pungent garlic, and zesty lemon that dances across the palate. A hint of sweet paprika adds depth, while black pepper and fine sea salt enhance the natural flavors of the meat. This rub transforms every bite into a savory delight, evoking the warmth of a sun-drenched Greek afternoon.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbspdried oregano
  • 2 tbspgarlic powder
  • 1 tbspsweet paprika
  • 1 tbsplemon zest — dried
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 2 tbspfine sea salt

Method

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of dried oregano, 2 tablespoons of garlic powder, 1 tablespoon of sweet paprika, 1 tablespoon of lemon zest, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 2 tablespoons of fine sea salt. Use a whisk or fork to stir the ingredients together until the mixture is uniform in color and texture, ensuring that the spices are evenly distributed.
  2. Take your choice of meat, such as lamb chops, Souvlaki, or chicken. Drizzle a light amount of olive oil over the meat, just enough to coat it lightly. Sprinkle the seasoning mix generously over the meat, then use your hands to rub it in thoroughly, making sure the spices adhere well to all surfaces. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the meat to enhance the flavors.
  3. Allow the seasoned meat to rest for at least thirty minutes before grilling. This resting period lets the flavors penetrate the meat, enhancing its taste and tenderness. During this time, the aroma of the spices will become more pronounced, indicating that the seasoning is working its magic.
  4. If you have leftover seasoning, transfer it to an airtight container. Store the container in a cool, dark place to preserve the freshness and potency of the spices. Proper storage will ensure that the seasoning remains aromatic and flavorful for future use.
