Thai House Rub 2

Serves about 1/2 cup Spice Mix vegan, Spice Mixes

Thai House Rub 2

Thai House Rub 2 is a versatile pantry blend that finds its roots in the everyday kitchens of Thailand. Used to elevate a variety of dishes, it's not tied to a specific occasion but is a staple seasoning to have on hand. Whether sprinkled over grilled meats or stirred into soups, this blend brings a distinct Thai touch to meals at any time of the day.

The flavor profile is an earthy symphony, dominated by the warmth of ground cumin and the smoky depth of paprika, balanced by the citrusy brightness of coriander. A touch of black pepper adds a gentle heat, while fine sea salt rounds out the blend, enhancing the natural flavors of whatever dish it graces.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbspground cumin
  • 2 tbsppaprika
  • 1 tbspground coriander
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 1 tbspfine sea salt

Method

  1. In a dry skillet, add 2 tablespoons of ground cumin, 2 tablespoons of paprika, 1 tablespoon of ground coriander, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Place the skillet over medium heat. Stir the spices continuously with a wooden spoon to prevent burning. Toast them until they release a rich, warm aroma and the color deepens slightly, which should take a few minutes.
  2. Once the spices are fragrant, remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the spices to a large plate to cool completely. This step is crucial to prevent the spices from continuing to cook and potentially becoming bitter.
  3. After the spices have cooled, combine them with 1 tablespoon of fine sea salt in a spice grinder or a mortar and pestle. Grind or mix them until you achieve a uniform texture, ensuring the salt is evenly distributed throughout the blend.
  4. Transfer the blended spices into an airtight container, such as a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Store the container in a cool, dark place, like a pantry or cupboard, to preserve the spices' potency.
  5. For optimal flavor and aroma, use the Thai House Rub 2 within a few months. This blend is perfect for seasoning meats, vegetables, or rice dishes, adding a distinctive Thai flair to your cooking.
