Fresh Orange Juice

Fresh Orange Juice

Morocco's sun-drenched groves produce oranges of unparalleled sweetness and fragrance. These vibrant fruits find their way into the hands of juice vendors across the country, offering a refreshing start to the day or a moment of pause amidst the hustle. At breakfast stalls, the promise of freshness is fulfilled with each glass, capturing the essence of the orchards in every sip.

Fresh orange juice here is a celebration of purity, where the natural sweetness of the fruit is sometimes elevated with a subtle hint of orange-blossom water. The result is a drink that is both invigorating and aromatic, a simple delight that refreshes and revitalizes with every sip.

Ingredients

  • 6oranges
  • orange blossom watera few drops — optional

Method

  1. Begin by selecting 6 ripe, juicy oranges. Look for oranges that feel heavy for their size, as this indicates they are full of juice. Wash the oranges thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or pesticides from the skin.
  2. Cut each orange in half crosswise using a sharp knife. This will expose the juicy segments inside and make it easier to extract the juice.
  3. Prepare your juicing tool. You can use a manual citrus juicer, a reamer, or an electric juicer. If using a manual juicer or reamer, place one orange half on the juicer and press down while twisting it back and forth. This motion will help release the juice from the segments. Continue with all the orange halves until you have extracted as much juice as possible.
  4. Once all the oranges are juiced, pour the juice through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher or bowl to remove any seeds or large pulp pieces. This will ensure a smooth texture for your juice.
  5. If desired, add a few drops of orange blossom water to the juice. This will impart a delicate floral aroma that complements the citrusy flavor of the oranges.
  6. Stir the juice gently with a spoon to mix in the orange blossom water evenly. Taste the juice and adjust the amount of orange blossom water if needed, but be cautious as it is quite potent.
  7. Serve the fresh orange juice immediately. You can serve it chilled by pouring it over ice cubes, or enjoy it at room temperature. The juice should be vibrant in color and bursting with the natural sweetness and fragrance of Moroccan oranges.
