Korean Spiced Tea 2

Korean Spiced Tea 2 is a comforting staple at Korean home tables, an infusion crafted with the intuition of a seasoned family cook. The recipe relies on a generous hand with salt and fat, reflecting the warmth and hospitality of Korean home cooking. This version captures the essence of how it's lovingly prepared and shared, resonating with the informal yet intentional nature of family meals.

The tea offers a warm embrace of flavors, with spices mingling harmoniously against the backdrop of robust tea leaves. A touch of sugar balances the blend, creating a comforting drink that feels as familiar as it is inviting. It's a reflection of everyday Korean dining, where the sharing of food is as essential as the flavors themselves.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsptea leaves
  • 500 mlwater
  • to tastespices
  • to tastesugar

Method

  1. Start by bringing 500 ml of water to a gentle simmer in a medium saucepan over medium heat. This will ensure that the water is hot enough to extract the flavors from the tea leaves without boiling, which can make the tea bitter.
  2. Once the water is simmering, add 2 tablespoons of tea leaves to the saucepan. Stir gently to immerse the leaves fully in the water, allowing them to steep and release their flavors.
  3. While the tea is steeping, add spices to taste. Common choices include cinnamon, ginger, or cloves. Add them gradually, tasting as you go to achieve the desired balance of flavors.
  4. Add sugar to taste, stirring gently to dissolve it completely. The sugar should balance the spices and tea, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. Taste the tea to ensure the sweetness complements the spices.
  5. Allow the tea to steep for about 5 minutes, or until the aroma is rich and the color is a deep amber. The tea should have a well-rounded flavor profile, with no single element overpowering the others.
  6. Once the desired flavor and aroma are achieved, strain the tea into a teapot or directly into traditional Korean glassware. This will remove the tea leaves and spices, leaving a clear, spiced tea ready to enjoy.
  7. Serve the Korean Spiced Tea 2 immediately while it's hot, in traditional glassware if available, to fully appreciate the warmth and aroma. This tea is best enjoyed fresh, as the flavors are most vibrant right after brewing.
