Korean Spiced Tea

Korean Spiced Tea finds its place at the heart of Korean homes, a comforting brew shared during quiet afternoons or after hearty meals. This home-style version brings the essence of Korean cooking to your table, crafted with an intuitive touch. Unlike ceremonial teas, this spiced infusion is an everyday ritual, accessible and deeply personal, reflecting the warmth of Korean hospitality.

Expect a balance of robust tea leaves and subtle spices, with sweetness adjusted to your liking. Each cup offers a soothing embrace, the heat gently unfurling the tea's earthy notes and the spices' warmth. Whether sipped solo or shared with friends, it is a moment of tranquility in a cup.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsptea leaves
  • 500 mlwater
  • to tastespices
  • to tastesugar

Method

  1. Start by bringing 500 ml of water to a gentle boil in a medium-sized saucepan. Use a lid to help the water reach boiling point more quickly and ensure even heating. Once boiling, remove the lid to prevent over-boiling and allow the steam to escape.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of tea leaves to the boiling water. Stir gently with a wooden spoon to ensure the leaves are fully submerged. This will allow the tea leaves to release their flavors evenly into the water.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the tea simmer for about 3-5 minutes. You want the tea to develop a rich, amber color and a fragrant aroma. This indicates that the tea leaves have infused the water properly.
  4. Carefully strain the tea into a teapot or another heatproof container, using a fine mesh strainer to catch all the leaves. This step ensures a smooth tea without any leaf residue.
  5. Add spices to taste, such as cinnamon, ginger, or cloves, directly into the strained tea. Stir gently to combine, allowing the spices to meld with the tea's aroma. The spices should enhance the tea's fragrance without overpowering it.
  6. Sweeten the tea to taste with sugar, stirring until it dissolves completely. The sugar should balance the spices and tea, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.
  7. Serve the Korean Spiced Tea immediately in traditional Korean glassware or small cups. The tea should be warm and inviting, perfect for sharing around the table.
