Peruvian House Rub 2

Peruvian House Rub 2 is a pantry staple that embodies the essence of Peruvian seasoning. This blend, a symphony of spices, finds its place in homes from the bustling streets of Lima to the serene landscapes of Cusco. Traditionally used to enhance various meats and vegetables, it's a versatile mix that brings a taste of Peru to any dish, making it a beloved addition to the Peruvian kitchen year-round.

This rub greets the palate with the warm earthiness of cumin and the gentle heat of paprika, balanced by the fragrant notes of coriander. A hint of black pepper adds a subtle kick, while fine sea salt ties the flavors together. It's a blend meant to elevate the simplest ingredients, leaving a lingering taste that echoes the vibrant diversity of Peruvian cuisine.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbspground cumin
  • 2 tbsppaprika
  • 1 tbspground coriander
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 1 tbspfine sea salt

Method

  1. Begin by placing a small, dry skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of ground cumin, 2 tablespoons of paprika, 1 tablespoon of ground coriander, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper to the skillet. Stir the spices continuously with a wooden spoon to ensure even toasting. You'll know they're ready when the aroma becomes rich and slightly nutty, which should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Once the spices are toasted, remove the skillet from the heat and let the spices cool completely in the pan. This cooling step is crucial to prevent any residual heat from affecting the texture or flavor of the spices.
  3. After the spices have cooled, transfer them to a small mixing bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of fine sea salt to the bowl. Use a whisk or a spoon to combine the spices thoroughly, ensuring that the salt is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  4. To store your Peruvian House Rub 2, transfer the blend into an airtight container. Choose a container that seals well to keep moisture out, as this will preserve the freshness of the spices.
  5. Place the container in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard, away from direct sunlight. This will help maintain the potency and aroma of the spices.
  6. For the best flavor, aim to use the Peruvian House Rub 2 within a few months. Over time, the spices may lose some of their vibrant aroma, so it's best enjoyed fresh.
