Karahi
The pan that is the serving dish.
A Pakistani meal is nihari with naan, or biryani with raita — karahi is a third pot, not a garnish.
Nihari is a breakfast or weekend stew of slow meat, lemon, ginger, chili, naan. Chicken karahi is a lunch or dinner in the wok-pan with naan and salad. Biryani is the rice night.
The inherited table is a degh and a stack of bread. The newer table still picks one pot.

Deep bowls, naan, lemon, julienne ginger.
The inherited weekend starts late. Nihari is the bowl. Naan to tear. Lemon, ginger, chopped chili. No biryani mound beside it.
A wok-pan of chicken, naan, onion salad.
The newer lunch is karahi still in the pan. Bread. Salad. The rice night can wait.
One pot, naan or rice, lemon and chili on the side.
Nihari is not a side for biryani. Karahi is not poured over the rice. Three different tables.
Chapli kebab can be a Peshawar grill night with naan and chutney — another cloth.
